External Consultants Bring Ideas & Truth

I like the interpretation of the client in this piece - Outsiders bring ideas & truth - where the author writes:

I think outsiders are sometimes the only ones who will deliver the ugly truth. You know what the Bible says about "a prophet in his own land." My partner, Julio Melara, puts it another way: "It's hard to see the picture when you are in the picture." You need a fresh set of eyes to point out the obvious things that you just could not see.

One of the park experts put it to me this way: "We were hired to come in, gather information and tell you what we think. When I am done delivering the results of our study, I will fly out of here and go home."

They can be brutally honest and don't have to face the folks who get the news- and may be angry- at their school, church, grocery store, etc. They don't have to worry about feelings, only facts. The consultants can be pointed instead of political. They are like a doctor who has a responsibility to give it to you straight and let you know what has to be done to get well. It's then your choice.
